![]() | ANN BERETTA - To All Our Fallen Heroes - LookoutRecords: Upon first listen to this CD I didn't think it came closeto comparing with their last full length Bitter Tongues (fueled by ramen). But after Repeated, and I mean repeated listening it has become apparentto me that this CD is definitely just as good if not better... Every bandsounds different on each CD they put out, or picking up a new CD wouldsuck. Ann Beretta has definitely changed for the better. Moredistinct sounding songs, more kick ass lyrics, definitely a band with someclass an style. I've been waiting a long time for this CD and I wasn'tdisappointed. ED. |
![]() | ANTI-FLAG - A New Kind Of Army - A-F Records:Aftertons of line-up changes Anti-Flag are back. Finally. This album may notbe as good as Die For Your Government, but they continue where they leftoff. Best way I can describe the difference is that their a little lesspissed off. But they know what there talking about and stand there groundopposing the system. This is a great CD. A New Kind Of Army, just letsyou smile, and think to yourself. One day this world is gonna be a fairand equal place... And this ain't a Crass album!!! ha. ED. |
![]() | THE* ATARIS - Blue Skies, Broken Hearts...next12 exits - Kung Fu Records: First of all... I love the title. Being a fan of Fat Wreck bands the first time I heard these guys was onFat Music 4, "San Dimas High School Football rules" was the song... andits great. That song also appears on this album. Theaptly titled "Blue Skies..." is a solid emo-punk record. It has quitean original sound to it and Fantastic lyrics. With song titleslike "Your Boyfriend Sucks" and "The Last Song I Will Ever Write AboutA Girl" by singer song writer Kris Roe. It's produced by LagwagonsJoey Cape and released under the Vandal's Kung Fu Records. If youra fan of solid Pop-Punk with cute but deep and intelligent, almost weezerishemo lyrics, pick this up. ![]() | BOMBSHELL ROCKS - Street Art Gallery - BurningHeart Records: Saw these guys at the Elmo last November, it was poorlyadvertised, and pretty much no one was there. I'm glad I was... and gladI picked up their CD. From beginning to end it just makes me wanna jumparound. Tracks like street art gallery make you think what Jerry Lee Lewiswould be like if he was part of the punk movement. All the songs an lyricsare down to earth and true to the heart. I've heard from people that theythink there too much like Rancid. I have to disagree, they took there influencesand developed there own style that they can call there own. Man this isgood. ED. |
![]() | DOPE POET SOCIETY - Hipolitics: First OntarioThen... - Justus League Records: I'm not gonna pretend to be extremelyversed in the music and culture of Hip Hop. I do have to say I don't respectany of that rolling with my nine, slapping my ho's stuff... And readingTerrordome on Public Enemy.com I can tell Chuck D doesn't either. So itmakes me glad to expose my self to the world of underground hip hop bypicking up this CD. With a song called "Fuck Mike Harris" how could I passthis up... the Professional also is really good and thought provoking andhelps defend those who choose being a singer, or musician with radicalviews as pretty much a career. My only complaint would be that it's only5 tracks, with a radio re-mix of 'Fuck Mike Harris" called "Down with MikeHarris" (in the world of slang that can be taken as the opposite of FuckMike Harris), and a preview track of other Justus League artists WonderWomen (which makes me want more). Not enough on one CD in my opinion. Ican't wait for more though. ED. |
![]() | GOLDFINGER - Darrin's Coconut Ass: Live FromOmaha - Mojo Records: This release is meant to tide antsy Goldfingerfans over until the release of there new full length in early 2000. Itdoes it's job pretty well. An 8 song EP of covers, recorded live to tapein a studio in Omaha. The covers are from such bands as The Police, TheWho, Peter Tosh, and The Cure. They rock pretty hard especially since thererecorded live. Another great thing about this disc is that is comes withAdvanced CD features, such as pictures and a pretty awesome 8 minute long3 song video montage. Pretty Kickin. Any ways, It's cheap, it's good, andit's cool for all you computer geeks. The total package. MATT |
![]() | GRADE - Under The Radar - Victory Records:The long awaited Victory Fill Length Debut of Burlington Emo-Core legendsGRADE. For me it only somewhat live's up to the hype. Don't get me wrong, this is a solid record with many stand out tracks laden with Grade's greathardcore/emo/punk blend. Nut it's only drawback, is considering this bandsgreat history it lacks in comparison to previous efforts, such as 1997's"Separate the magnets". In comparison this effort doesn't seem as focused. This might be a result of the bands many side-projects such as the ska-punkgreats Jersey (guitarist Greg Taylor), and up until recently Outspan (drummerChris Danner) and The Swarm (of which Matt and Kyle are ex-members). Nowall that aside, this is a good record, I guess the only thing it suffersfrom is expectations. MATT |
![]() | HOT WATER MUSIC - FOREVER AND COUNTING - DogHouse Records: I've only just started really getting into this band.I've listened to the odd vinyl while working my shifts at Who's Emma. Andthose were great... I really enjoyed them. Don't remember any specifics. Not to mention they were amazing live last November and kept the crowdup here pleased when Sick of It all canceled. I picked up the Live FromThe Hardback cd shortly after that show... and that was quite enjoyableand I'm glad I finally got my hands on a Studio Album. In fact listeningto this really relaxed me through current relationship problems I had.The songs are soothing yet sadning but just make you feel the yearningof the human spirit. It may be mellow. But it's PUNK. at least in my books.'Minnow' (so good), 'Better Sense', were great to hear on a Studio album,'Three Summers Strong' I really took to heart. PICK THIS UP!!!!!! ED. |
![]() | MUGSHOT - DEMO EP - The Debut release ofHawaiian Skanksters Mugshot... well a demo as the title puts it. I sithere trying to think of other ska bands who have this whole hawaiian shirtthing down, but can only think of trendy pop punk bands trying to be wacky. So these guys get props for being a band from Aurillia here in Canada andmaking you feel like yer in the sunny paradise of Hawaii. These talentedbunch of fellas put together a great 8 song cd... many songs I'm sure usguys can relate to about women that just make you sigh. Especially thetrack "When Sarah Smiles" I know how happy it make me feel to see someonedear to me smile... Cadillac Sue is down right comedic... Hallowaiian Skais chilling to tha bone. Good CD worth picking up. But how can they defendSteven Segal, "I believe in Steven Even". STEVEN SEGAL SUCKS! ED. |
![]() | NOFX - The Decline - Fat Wreck Chords: NOFXare back once again with their newest effort "The Decline". It'son Fat Wreck Chords, and let me tell you being a big NOFX fan I was lookingforward to this EP for a loooong time. I was surprised, but verypleased with it's outcome. This CD/LP is one of the most inventivethings done with Punk in years. It is one song with a duration over18 minutes. It never gets boring and it never ceases to rock yourass hard. Brilliant. The music is kind of blotchy, switchingfrom fast to slow, from fast punk to jumpy ska, but it actually works prettywell. And even though it's only 1 song, you still find yourself anticipatingcertain parts and certain melodies re-occur. The lyrics are very powerfulsome of the best Fat Mike has ever written, but lack something to unifyit, unfortunately. Any ways, this is a great tune, definitely wortha listen, has surprising re-play value and seeing as it's relatively cheap,it's worth picking up. But whatever you do, DON'T TRY THIS SONG ATHOME. MATT p.s. Nofx - Pump Up The Valium. Early2000 |
![]() | PUBLIC ENEMY - There's A Poison Going On -Atomic Pop: I'm not gonna pretend that I've been into Public Enemyfor a long time. I only recently just started listening to there CD's.Anything before 1999 I can kind of remember back when I was like 10 or12 in the early nineties hearing 'Fight The Power' and prolly the odd songor two... I picked up Fear Of A Black Planet, and It Takes A Nation OfMillions To Hold Us Back before this, the press they got this year duringthere tour, and for releasing mp3's before their album, not to mentionone of my favorite Punk Bands "Marilyn's Vitamins" was heavily influencedby them made me want to hear and learn more. And I'm glad they returnedcause this is a sweet CD. from the beginning with 'Do You Wanna Go OurWay???' and on I couldn't help but like just about every song and respectthe lyrics. Especially when there attacking the record industry... if yourinto Public Enemy, or think that you want something different then recycledB.I.G. songs... and something better... pick this up. ED |
| RUCCUS - 23 calls to Queensville in 48 minutesor less - I saw these guys for the first time at the Mugshot CD releaseparty... they impressed the hell outta me so I bought there CD. The cdlacks the raw/roughness of there live show... but its still impressivefor a soft more bands first effort. And if these kids can produce the rightrecord they would sound sweet. They have the talent, and charisma and allthat... looking forward to more form these guys. ED. |
